Peptide fridge: choosing one, and proving it's actually cold
A peptide fridge is just a mini fridge that holds its temperature. Why the door is the worst shelf, and how to prove yours stays at 2–8 °C.

"Peptide fridge" just means a small fridge kept for vials rather than food. There is no special appliance — people use ordinary mini fridges, and what makes one suitable is whether it genuinely holds temperature, not what it's marketed as. The same goes for an "insulin fridge": same job, same requirements.
"In the fridge" is not the same as "at the right temperature". The target for most mixed vials is 2–8 °C (36–46 °F), and an ordinary kitchen fridge fails it in specific, predictable places.
- Never the door. It's the warmest shelf and it gets slammed twenty times a day. Vials belong on a middle shelf, at the back but not touching the rear wall, where things freeze.
- A dedicated mini fridge solves the traffic problem entirely. Check the internal height fits vials standing up, and look for reviews that mention it being quiet if it's going in a bedroom.
- Buy the thermometer with the fridge, not later. A min/max thermometer shows the coldest and warmest it got while you were asleep — the only way to know a fridge holds its range. For a full history, a USB logger exports every reading.
- Watch for freezing, not just warmth. Many cheap coolers overshoot; frozen is usually worse than slightly warm.
- Power cuts: a closed fridge holds temperature for hours. Note when it went off rather than opening the door to check.
The risk nobody mentions when they recommend a mini fridge
We sell mini fridges, so take this seriously rather than as marketing: a dedicated fridge you open once a week is the one most likely to fail without you noticing. A kitchen fridge gets opened twenty times a day, so you find out within hours if it's warm. A small unit in a cupboard, holding one thing you check weekly, can fail on a Monday and go unnoticed until Sunday.
This is the single most common objection raised in community threads about storing anything in a mini fridge, and it's a fair one. It isn't an argument against the fridge — it's an argument against the fridge on its own:
- A min/max thermometer is not optional here, it's the other half of the product. It records the warmest and coldest it reached since you last looked, so a weekly glance covers the whole week. Buy them together.
- Cheap units overshoot in both directions. Thermoelectric coolers in particular drift with room temperature — a hot week can push them out of range, a cold room can freeze the contents.
- A USB logger is the upgrade if what's inside is expensive or hard to replace. It records continuously, so you can see the shape of a failure rather than just its worst point.
- Don't put it somewhere you never go. A garage or spare room defeats the purpose; ambient swings are worse there and you'll check it less.
Common questions
- Does it need refrigerating at all? That depends entirely on the product and whether it's been mixed — unopened and mixed vials often have completely different requirements. - Is a skincare fridge the same thing? Mechanically, usually yes — the same small thermoelectric units get sold under both labels. Judge it on whether it holds 2–8 °C and fits your vials standing up, not on which shelf of the shop it came from.
