Mixing water and the things that go with it
This is the shelf a vial of powder needs before anything else can happen. Three liquids and the small hardware that moves one into the other: vials to split a large batch into smaller ones, adapters that give a stopper a screw-on port, filters, and the stands and openers that stop the fiddly parts going wrong.
The liquids are the part people get wrong, and the difference is a preservative. Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol added, which stops bacteria multiplying in the bottle once a needle has been through the stopper; that is why an opened bottle is considered good for about 28 days rather than for one sitting. Sterile water has nothing in it and is single-use: mix it, use it, discard the rest. Saline is 0.9% salt water, the strength of the body, and is the liquid nasal preparations call for. None of the three is interchangeable with tap or bottled water.
The hardware is about how many holes you put in a stopper and how steady your hands have to be. A vial adapter seats on the stopper once and gives every syringe afterwards a needle-free screw-on port, so the stopper takes one clean puncture instead of thirty. A filling stand holds the vial upside down over the syringe so both hands are free to pull the plunger slowly, which is where bubbles and shaky readings come from. A cap opener pops the metal flip-off without a thumbnail on a metal edge. None of these is required; each removes one specific way the job goes wrong.
