What it’s for

A scale hides changes in shape. A tape around the waist every couple of weeks shows what the scale doesn't.

What to check in the listing

The self-locking kind (you wrap it, press, and it holds) is the one worth having, because you can read it without a second pair of hands. Measure the same spot the same way each time — the navel is the usual landmark — or the numbers mean nothing.

At a glance

TypeBody measuring
Resolution1 mmResolution is the smallest step it can show. A 0.001 g scale reads milligrams; a 0.1 g kitchen scale cannot.

Used forTrackingUsed for lists the situations this product is for; the decision tool and the Finder match on these.
PriceBudgetPrice tier is the rough position within its category, not a live price: budget is the cheapest sensible option, premium costs more for a reason the page explains.
TravelCarry-on friendlyTravel says whether it is practical to fly with: carry-on means it goes through security without fuss.
SterileNoSterile means individually sealed and sterile until opened; anything that touches the inside of a vial or your skin should be.

For getting a number right rather than close enough, read Measuring accurately — units, bubbles and dead space.
