What is a temperature excursion?

Why it matters when you shop
Any time a temperature-sensitive product leaves its intended range, usually 2–8 °C. A parcel in a van, a vial on the counter overnight, a fridge door left open. Excursions are cumulative: three short warm spells cost about the same as one long one. The temperature-loss calculator estimates the cost.
What to look for on the listing
- A min/max thermometer, so an excursion you were not there to see is still recorded.
- A logger for shipments and travel: it answers "how warm, for how long".
- An alarm if the fridge shares a house with people who open it.
