Vitamins and supplements: the everyday shelf
Food and pharmacy-shelf products: electrolyte sachets and oral rehydration salts, whey, casein and plant protein powders, fibre, a vitamin and mineral aisle from D3 with K2 to zinc, and single-ingredient powders such as creatine and collagen. This is one of the two shelves on the site that are not accessories, and the one where we are most careful about what we say: each product is described as what it is and what people commonly use it for, with no claim about what it does.
The shelf sorts into a few honest groups. Hydration: electrolyte sachets and tablets, oral rehydration salts in the World Health Organization ratio, and a time-marked bottle. Protein: whey isolate, clear whey, casein, plant protein, bone broth protein, ready-to-drink cartons and bars, with a shaker, a blender and a kitchen scale beside them. Digestion: psyllium and prebiotic fibre powders, digestive enzymes, a probiotic, and ginger in both chew and capsule form. Then the ordinary vitamin and mineral aisle — D3 with K2, a B complex, B12, B6, C, zinc, iron, calcium with D3, potassium, a multivitamin — and a handful of the single-ingredient powders people ask for by name: creatine, collagen, glycine, taurine, carnitine, EAAs, HMB.
Two things are worth knowing before you buy any of it. First, the form on the label is usually the difference between two listings of the same thing: magnesium glycinate rather than oxide, ubiquinol rather than ubiquinone, iron bisglycinate rather than sulphate, B6 as P-5-P. Second, servings per tub, not the tub's price, is what makes one cheaper than another.
